Few Hints - Need to Visit Brake Repair Shop?

Brake Repair Shop

The importance of an efficient and well-conditioned braking system in your car does not have to be stated. The maintenance can be the difference between a safe ride in Melbourne or a visit to the hospital. So, here are a few hints which suggest that a visit to the Brake repair shop is in order. Most of us understand the importance of good braking systems but are often oblivious to when a brake pad replacement is needed, or some other repair or servicing is required.

  • Brake Warning Light: This is the most obvious alert that something is wrong with your brakes and it needs to be taken to an auto shop immediately.

  • Squealing or grinding noises when applied: Squealing, grinding, screeching, or rubbing noises from the brakes suggest that the pads might have started to wear out and needs replacement. It can also be due to missing of the gasket between the pad and piston, which causes vibration and causes squealing sounds.

  • Spongy or slow responding brakes: If you need to press down harder to get the brakes working, then the fluid might be too low to allow the required braking pressure. It might also mean the failure of the master cylinder or the brake power boost unit. You might have to even press the pedal to the floor to get those brakes to kick in, so it is better to go to a brakes shop right away.

  • Clunky sound: A bolt or a piece might be loose in the braking system, which causes the clunky sound. It might also mean a worn or broken suspension system. There can be more reasons for this, but it's better to get your brakes checked immediately, just to be sure.

  • Firm Pedals: A leak in the vacuum brake booster system might be the reason. This can be due to an obstruction in the fluid circulation line.

  • The car swerving to one side: This usually means a damaged suspension system but, in some cases, the brake discs might be the culprit. It is better to inspect it right away. A brake pad replacement might be required too.

  • Dragging of brakes: A bad wheel cylinder might cause the brakes to be still in pressure, which might always leave it slightly engaged. This can also be due to a faulty parking brake. Go to a brake repair station to replace the wheel cylinder or repair the faulty parking brake.

  • Burning Smell: Overused or worn out brake pads might cause this. This is often seen while coming down a steep hill or a mountain drive. If the smell is present while driving on a straight road, a calliper piston might be locked or there might be a problem with the parking brake or brake pads.
